On Thursday, May 26, 2016, Mr. Aleksandar Janković, Head of the Asia-Pacific region within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, gave a lecture to the China Centre students of John Naisbitt University on the relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Serbia, as well as the countries involved in the 16 + 1 Summit. In addition to students, the lecture was attended by the representatives of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, representatives of Serbian companies co-operating with China, representatives of Chinese companies cooperating with Serbia, as well as renowned Serbian sinologists.

Aleksandar Janković represented the course of the relations development between Serbia and China in all fields of cooperation (political, economic and cultural), the projects on which the two countries are currently working, as well as the possible directions for the future progress of their relations. Mr. Janković particularly emphasized the importance of the arrival of Chinese President Xi Jinping to the Republic of Serbia in the coming months, and pointed out that this is yet another proof of successful cooperation between Serbia and China today.

Also, in the context of this lecture the two most important Chinese foreign economic projects were presented: The New Silk Road and the 16 + 1 Summit. On that occasion the role of our country in those was explained, together with the possible effects on its development.

After the end of the lecture, Mr. Jankovic answered the Chinese center students’ questions, both Serbian and Chinese, who were interested to know how the 16 + 1 Summit was organized in Belgrade, what the significance of the projects: The New Silk Road and the 16 + 1 Summit was for our country, whether Serbian companies have their own representatives in China, and which the areas of our further cooperation with China could be.

All the participants agreed that the cooperation between the two countries is at a very high level, and that it is expected that in the future it would be necessary to organize more such, because there is great interest, both of the students, and professional public to learn more about and discuss these topics.
